We all love betting on the NFL, so why not jump into the new season with the 2011 NFL preseason? Sure, betting on the preseason isn’t the easiest thing to do, but there are a few angles to be sure that you look at when picking games. The first thing to look at is the depth of each team. Always find angles on teams who have strong back-up players (and remember that those back-ups get to play against back-up defenses typically). Another thing to look for is players at major offensive positions who have something to prove. Whether it be quarterback or running back, if you can find a player who is a 2nd or even 3rd stringer who is making a push to be near the top of that depth chart, they are bound to make a difference. With this being said, let’s take a look at some of the opening day preseason lines.
Baltimore Ravens (+3) vs. Philadelphia Eagles (-3)
I like this spot for the Eagles. They are at home in the opening preseason game, and have some depth. They’ll be sure to get their new players such as Vince Young and Ronnie Brown some playing time. I think the Eagles have depth in the form of some players who are looking to be sure that people know who they are. The Ravens on the other hand, lost their strong back-up quarterback Troy Smith, and now have the unproven Hunter Cantwell as their backup. I’m picking the Eagles -3.
Pick: Philadelphia Eagles -3
Denver Broncos +3 vs. Dallas Cowboys -3
This is the second game with a line of -3, and the second game where I like the home favorite. The Cowboys have not one, not two, but three quarterbacks with in-game experience. Jon Kitna is an experienced quarterback in the back-up position, while Stephen McGee is their third stringer, and he showed quite a bit of promise last year during the regular season. The Broncos have Tebow coming in off of the bench, but I’m not expecting him to play nearly as much as many people will in game 1 of the preseason. After that, comes Brady Quinn; and I’m one of the many who just aren’t sold on Brady Quinn by any means. The Cowboys have depth at running back as well, and will be sure to get the strong rookie Demarco Murray quite a few touches. The Boys’ will also be sure to get young wide receivers Dwayne Harris, Manuel Johnson, and Jesse Holley quite a bit of play as well. I’m picking the Dallas Cowboys.
Pick: Dallas Cowboys -3
Now of course there are only 5 opening day preseason games, and we can’t like every one of them. But, we will have a few favorite picks throughout the preseason, and of course we’ll cover the NFL 100% throughout the regular season and playoffs. But as far as our 2011 NFL opening preseason picks go, what do you think about the selections listed above? Let us know!
The Memphis Grizzlies were down 16 at one point and rallied all the way back to knock off the Oklahoma City Thunder in overtime, largely thanks to Zach Randolph’s 21 points and 21 rebounds. The Grizzlies are in a good spot to be the first number 8 seed to ever make it to the Conference Finals. For a while, the Grizzlies looked like a number 8 seed; which they haven’t looked like for the entire 2011 NBA Playoffs. The Thunder were outscored 23-10 in the 4th quarter and it seemed as if they thought they had already won the game going into the 4th. To end the game, Memphis won overtime 15-7.
The Grizzlies were led by solid scoring across the board from their starters (21 from Randolph, 18 from Conley, 16 from Gasol, and 10 from Allen), and also got excellent production from OJ Mayo off the bench with 18 points, 6 rebounds, and 4 assists. Memphis has made it this far in the playoffs because of their ability to play as a team; they all care about winning first and their own scoring second.
The Thunder on the other hand were again led by Durant (22 points), Westbrook (23 points), and Harden (12 points), but also had good production from the normally defensive-minded Serge Ibaka with 14 points. Durant on the other hand shot only 10-24 and struggled a bit down the stretch. If the Thunder are going to make a deep run in this postseason and get out of this 2-1 hole against, they need to get more production from Durant, Westbrook and Harden.
What This Means
If the Thunder had taken game 3 from Memphis on the road, it would have been huge for them in the series. For now, Memphis holds onto the home court advantage that they gained by beating Oklahoma City in game 1. I think this gives the momentum back to the Grizzlies and basically wraps up the series if they can take down game 4 at home. The Grizzlies honestly just look like a better overall team than the Thunder do. Ignoring the fact that the Thunder have one of the best players in the league, the Grizzlies doing something that the Thunder aren’t- playing like a team.
Predictions for the Remainder of the Series
As much as I think Kevin Durant can pull this out for the Thunder, the Grizzlies are overcoming every obstacle; whether it be their defense against Durant, the speed of the Thunder’s guards, or the Thunders excellent free throw shooting. I think the Grizzlies have a real shot to take out the Thunder and become the first number 8 seed to ever make it to the Conference Finals. I’m taking the Memphis Grizzlies to knock the Oklahoma City Thunder out of the 2011 NBA Playoffs.

The 2011 NFL Draft is right around the corner, although with all the craziness of the NBA Playoffs and NFL Lockout going on, it may have snuck up on you. Well, it didn’t sneak up on us here at Betting Blogger; and we’re going to give you some low down on what we think about the 2011 NFL Draft. Here’s a list of my Top 10 Predictions for this years NFL Draft:
- The Carolina Panthers aren’t going to find their franchise QB with the first pick in this draft. Whether it’s Cam Newton, or Blaine Gabbert- neither one shows me the potential to be a franchise player.
- A.J. Green is going to make an impact in year one, and be a top WR by year two of his career. (Hey, I never said all the predictions had to be bold!)
- The Arizona Cardinals need a QB, and they’ll get one in the first round at some point- I don’t buy the fact that the Cardinals want to wait until Free Agency. Ken Whisenhunt had Kurt Warner, now he has John Skeleton, Derek Anderson, and Max Hall…draft a quarterback.
- Jack Locker is going to get drafted way too high. He was said to be the first pick last year, then a top 5 pick mid way through the year, and now people are saying who knows? He’ll end up at a place like Washington at pick 10, and that’s too high.
- The St. Louis Rams are going to get a steal in Julio Jones at pick number 14- My only reasoning behind this is that he’s a stud wide receiver.
- The New England Patriots love Ben-Jarvus Green-Ellis, but they love the thought of Mark Ingram too, welcome to the North Markie Mark.
- I read the other day that Da’Quan Bowers is going to drop to between 20-30 overall, if he drops that low not only will I be shocked, but I’ll be the first person to scold every team that passed on him- Da’Quan Bowers is going to be a star, don’t put all your stock in one injury.
- There’s going to be at least one top 15 pick, that has BOTH Mel Kiper and Todd McShay mind blown on…and that doesn’t happen much- I think ESPN tells them to disagree on EVERYTHING.
- The ESPN Mock Draft currently has Andy Dalton being drafted by the Minnesota Vikings at number 12. Above Da’Quan Bowers. It’s not happening.
- The best defensive player in the draft might drop to number 15, he plays CB, and he’s not quite a king yet. (Oh yeah, Betting Blogger does riddles as well!)
This draft is one of the most up in the air drafts in years, no one really knows who will be the top pick- and everyone’s especially confused as to who will be the top 5 picks. But something cool that I found on Sportsbook are the current 2011 NFL Draft Props. You can bet on anything from if Mr. Irrelevant will be an offensive player or a defensive player to how many Runningbacks will get drafted in the first round.
My Favorite 2011 NFL Draft Prop Bet:
Blaine Gabbert UNDER Pick 4.5 (+120)- Those are really good odds, and you’re getting three teams in the top 4 picks who need a QB (Panthers, Bills, and Bengals). I really like Blaine Gabbert to be picked before pick 5.
Lets hear your opinion of the 2011 NFL Draft! What do you think about how the draft will go?
So we hit the Eastern Conference Playoff predictions, so we need to give a little love to the Western Conference as well. The West has some of my favorite match-ups and potential match-ups of the playoffs. We have quite a few possible upsets, and what I think will be one of the best first round playoff match-ups in years. The defending champions Los Angeles Lakers came into the season as the early favorites, and are the 2nd seed heading into the playoffs- with the San Antonio Spurs locking in the first spot with an excellent season. The Lakers struggled down the home stretch and are going to need to turn it up a notch to knock out another NBA Championship. Let’s take a look at the match-ups for this season’s playoffs.
2011 NBA Playoffs First Round Match-ups:
#1 San Antonio Spurs vs. #8 Memphis Grizzlies
The Spurs suffered a potentially huge loss in Manu Ginobili getting injured earlier this week. He may be back this series, but if not it’ll set up the hungry Grizzlies for a potentially huge upset. The season series for these teams was 2-2, but San Antonio has a lot more playoff experience than the Grizzlies do and in the end it’ll be enough to knock off the Grizzlies. i like the Spurs 4-2
#2 Los Angeles Lakers vs. #7 New Orleans Hornets
The Lakers struggled to end the season, but got 2 back to back big wins to lock up the number 2 seed. It’s yet to be seen if they were “bored” waiting for the playoffs, as some people said- or if they just don’t have the steam to make a playoff push. The Lakers won the season series 4-0 and I don’t see the playoff series going much differently. I like the Lakers 4-1.
#3 Dallas Mavericks vs. #6 Portland Trailblazers
The Mavs are a popular pick to bet upset in round 1, but that may just be due to their playoff struggles in the past. The Blazers are hungry though and play great team basketball, I wouldn’t be surprised if they can pull off a round 1 upset (just like everyone else I guess!). But in the end, it helps when you have the best player on the court in Dirk Nowitzki and I’m picking the Mavericks to edge the Trailblazers 4-3.
#4 Oklahoma City Thunder vs. #5 Denver Nuggets
This is my favorite match-up of the playoffs; a young, hungry team vs. a young, hungry team. It gets no better than this, both teams can run and have some really exciting players. I’d be shocked if this series doesn’t go to 7 games, Kevin Durant is one of the best players in the league and is still sour after losing to the Lakers in last season’s playoffs. This series is 3-1 Oklahoma City, but Denver has played excellent since their trade of Carmelo Anthony. I’m picking the Oklahoma City Thunder 4-3 due to them getting game 7 on their home floor.
My Western Conference Champion Prediction:
I’m taking the Los Angeles Lakers to win the Western Conference, I’m jumping on the train of people who think that the Lakers were just waiting for playoff time. They got the job done when they needed to in order to lock up the 2 seed, and with the news that Andrew Bynum is cleared to play in Game 1 and throughout the playoffs- they’re tough to bet against.
Western Conference Odds to Win:
Los Angeles Lakers- Even
San Antonio Spurs- +300
Oklahoma City Thunder- +400
Dallas Mavericks- +800
Denver Nuggets- +1400
Portland Trailblazers- +2200
Memphis Grizzlies- +7500
New Orleans Hornets- +10000

It’s finally that time of the year again, the NBA Playoffs are back and there’s some really good first round match-ups to look forward to. Before the season, most people were picking the Miami Heat as the huge favorite out of the East, but they had a lot of ups and downs this season, and ended up winning some big games at the end of the season to clinch the number 2 seed out of the East. The Chicago Bulls are leading the charge out of the Eastern Conference and are incredibly hot right now, there should be some pairings out of the East so let’s check out the match-ups.
#1 Chicago Bulls vs. #8 Indiana Pacers-
The bottom of the East is pretty weak as the Pacers are 8 games below .500% at 37-45. And the Bulls are heading into the 2011 NBA Playoffs full of steam at 62-20. I see the Pacers possibly pulling one game out here, but the overall series ending at either 4-0 at 4-1 Chicago.
#2 Miami Heat vs. #7 Philadelphia 76ers
A lot of people are saying that the Sixers have a shot to win 2 games here, but it’ll be tough. Dwayne Wade is battled tested in the Playoffs and he, Lebron, and Bosh- aren’t going to let the Heat go down in round 1. I like the Heat to take the series 4-1.
#3 Boston Celtics vs. #6 New York Knicks
This is the best match-up in my opinion in the East. The Knicks have some stars and are finally starting to play like a team, while the Celtics aren’t playing anywhere near as well as they were before they traded Kendrick Perkins. Carmelo and Amare are going to pull the upset in this series I think, and I’m taking the Knicks in a shocker 4-3.
#4 Orlando Magic vs. #5 Atlanta Hawks
I think the Hawks are the team that benefited most from the East being so weak at the bottom this season. They’re 44-38 and that record wouldn’t have even made the playoffs this season in the Western Conference. The Hawks haven’t shown much this season to make me think they can stop Dwight Howard, Jameer Nelson and company. I’m taking the Magic 4-2.
My Eastern Conference Champion Prediction:
Sure, the Heat were the popular choice out of the East, but they’ll have a tough road if they want to make it to the Finals. The Bulls have shown they know how to beat the Heat, and seem to have the same common dislike of Miami as the rest of the NBA- except their dislike of them seems to be on another level. You also can’t sleep on Orlando, they seem to play well in the playoffs and have a lot of very good players surrounding Dwight Howard this season. But in the end, the Chicago Bulls are riding a wave of confidence into the playoffs and it’s going to help them come Eastern Conference Championship time, I’m going to take the Chicago Bulls over the Heat to go to the 2011 NBA Finals.
Eastern Conference Odds to Win:
Chicago Bulls- +110
Miami Heat- +160
Boston Celtics- +400
Orlando Magic- +600
New York Knicks- +2000
Atlanta Hawks- +7500
Philadelphia 76ers- +10000
Indiana Pacers- +40000
