The Jacksonville Jaguars (6-8) will head to New York to take on the Jets on Thursday night, leading off Week 16 of the NFL season.  The Jags enter this game coming off an impressive OT win against the Dallas Cowboys, and the Jets enter having lost an important game at home to the Detroit Lions. The game is set to begin at 8:15 ET and can be seen on Amazon Prime TV.

This matchup has huge playoff implications, as both teams are competing for one of the final playoff spots in the AFC. Jacksonville are underdogs in this game, although they have been the team trending upwards as of late. Trevor Lawrence’s solid play and the Jets defensive struggles are the main reasons why the Jacksonville Jaguars will cover the spread of +1 in this game.

Trevor Lawrence has been Solid

Trevor Lawrence has been one of the key reasons why the Jags have gone 3-1 in their last four games. In their last 3 wins, Lawrence has thrown for over 300 yards and has at least three passing touchdowns in each of those games. He has also done well protecting the ball, throwing only one interception in his last 6 starts.

He’ll take on a Jets defensive that outside of Sauce Gardner, has been pretty underperforming in the second half of the season. Untimely mistakes by the defense have been one of the main reasons why the Jets are 1-4 (2-3 ATS) in their last 5 games.

Lawrence should be right around 300 passing yards and three passing touchdowns again, as the Jags will cover and win this important road game.

Jets Untimely Lapses Defensively

The Jets have not been their recent selves defensively, giving up 20 or more points in each of their last 3 games, all of which they lost. Defensive minded head coach Robert Saleh has had success with the defense this year, led by rookie CB Sauce Gardner, who has played lock-down defense on the NFL’s best receivers all season.

However, the defense has started to lose its mojo and has struggled of late. With playoff implications on the line and no room for error with three regular season games left, they’ll have to come up with more than a quick fix to stop Lawrence and the Jags offense, who have scored more than 35 points in each of their last two games.

Look for that fix to be absent in this matchup, as Trevor Lawrence and the red hot Jags offense to be too much for the lackluster Jets defense this Thursday night. Jacksonville will take this one, 27-19.
