The NBA Finals are coming! Basketball fans didn’t get the Celtics vs Lakers matchup that everyone except Miami fans were hoping for in the Finals this year. This doesn’t mean that we don’t have an entertaining matchup to conclude this crazy playoff season from the NBA Bubble down in Orlando, Fla., so here’s an NBA Final Betting Preview.
The Los Angeles Lakers and Miami Heat will meet in the 2020 NBA Finals beginning Wednesday night in a best of seven series to see who will be crowned the kings of the basketball world. LeBron James and the Lakers are heavy favorites to win the series.
The moneyline for the series has been set for LA at -400 and Miami +300. Don’t let this number fool you though because I think this series has the potential to be very competitive.
Can LeBron do it with Three Different Teams?
I think it’s very fitting that LeBron is taking on his former team in the finals this year. LeBron brought two titles to Miami before he returned to Cleveland and became a hometown hero. Miami has been rebuilding since LeBron left South Beach six years ago and they’re finally in title contention.
The Los Angeles Lakers are a really good basketball team and they deserve to be heavy favorites in this series. I mean LeBron isn’t the only star on this team. They have depth all over the floor including another All-NBA first teamer Anthony Davis. Davis will need to have a big series to support LeBron, but if these two are working in tangent this series could be over in a blink of the eye.
The Lakers have only lost three games in the playoffs this year. They dropped a game in each of their three-playoff series, but these losses didn’t make anyone think twice about the Lakers not making an NBA Finals appearance in 2020.
The Little Engine that Could
The Miami Heat should feel disrespected. Yes, the Lakers are a superior basketball team in every facet of the game, but to come into the NBA Finals as the best team in the Eastern Conference and be +300 to win it all should light a fire in the Heat locker room.
I know this statistic is flying under the radar because of the series odds, but Miami rolled through the Eastern Conference and only lost three games throughout the entire playoffs. Did their wins look as dominant as the Lakers? No…but they still only lost three games. This Miami team knows how to win.
Jimmy Butler’s arrival to Miami this season was the best signing the Heat could’ve ever made. Butler plays with an edge and he has brought that mentality to the Miami locker room. Butler believes in this team and his swagger has rubbed off on the entire organization. Butler may or may not be the star of the series, but he’ll play a pivotal role keeping the energy up on the Miami bench during the inevitable low moments as the leader of this team.
NBA Finals Betting Picks
The Heat will not lay down to the almighty Lakers in this series. They’re the definition of a team and will do whatever it takes to put themselves in a position to be successful. Despite this, Miami can’t pride themselves on playing from behind and being the comeback kids because the Lakers will not blow leads like the Celtics. LeBron and Davis are one of the best one-two punches in basketball so don’t rely on them not being able to finish games.
The Heat will need to be the aggressors and take it to the Lakers throughout this series. They need to put the pressure on LA and steal a few games early. I believe the Heat have the capability to make this series go 6 or 7 games, but in the end of the day LeBron will be the series MVP and the first NBA title since 2010 will be making its way back to Los Angeles.
