Occasionally, though, you have a couple of teams that just seem to be automatic when needed to cover spreads. These are the teams you rely on every week to secure you at least one win.
Now, to be fair, this changes from year to year, and a team that was consistent in the 2019 season could be unreliable against the spread in 2020. To help you plan your tickets out to capitalize on this NFL season, here are my top two teams that you should bet on this season.
Green Bay Packers
I know what you’re thinking, Green Bay wasn’t dominant against the spread last year and had some holes in their offense that left people wondering if they’d ever return to championship form. The good news is that even after their first game, they look like a much more explosive team than last season.
Head coach Matt LaFleur has built the offensive firepower surrounding future Hall of Fame quarterback Aaron Rodgers, giving them the boost they desperately needed.
The Packers offense fired on all cylinders against the Minnesota Vikings in the season opener, but more importantly, the Packers defense held Minnesota to 10 points through the third quarter. With a strong defense and a high-powered offense, the Packers are not only poised to cover multiple games this year, but a deep postseason run could be in the works as well.
Be sure to remember that Green Bay actually came in as the underdog against the Minnesota Vikings, and it’ll likely remain underdogs against the NFL’s heavy hitters. This gives you the best chance to capitalize on the sportsbooks’ mistakes and take Green Bay, whether it’s favored or not.
Another interesting thing to note is since the Packers are flying under the radar, the margin they’ll have to cover will likely remain low even against less competitive teams.
Somehow the Seattle Seahawks came in as underdogs in the first game of the season against the Atlanta Falcons. With Atlanta’s inefficiency on offense and an awful 7-9 2019 season, one can only speculate why they were favored over Seattle.
To be honest, though, that’s fine by me. If the sportsbooks are going to underestimate the genius that is Russell Wilson, far be it from me to get in their way. I’m just as happy taking the Seahawks week in and week out to cover spreads and make me some money.
Sure, last season, the Seahawks weren’t amazing against the spread, but the best part about betting on Seattle is how low the margins will stay. They aren’t a team that frequently blows out opposing teams like the Kansas City Chiefs. They are, however, a team that takes risks to put points on the board. Hats off to Pete Carroll.
That being said, Seattle seems like a team that you could really rely on the over to hit. Offensively, they’re absolutely stunning. They’re letting Wilson sling the ball around, and the result was four touchdown passes and 322 yards in Sunday’s win against the Falcons.
With sportsbooks seemingly overlooking the Seahawks, bettors have a chance to add a consistent winner on their tickets this season.
Why These Two?
Honestly, this is pretty cut and dry for me. I’m going with these two teams because both were overlooked heading into this season.
Everyone thinks that because Rodgers doesn’t have two or three elite wide receivers, the Packers offense will struggle. Seattle is being underestimated due to the surrounding competition in the NFC West.
These oversights give myself and other bettors the opportunity to capitalize every week.
